Celebrating the creatures that go ‘bump’ in the night

The good. The bad. The scary.

Join us as we discover or in some cases re-discover some of the silliest, creepiest, goriest and everything in between horror movies to help put a little scare into your Halloween.

Welcome to 31 Days of Horror.

Over the next month, I and a few ghoulish creatures will review any and all horror movies that we can beg, borrow or steal in Lebanon to save you, my feign of a reader, from the heartache or stomach-turning movies that could ruin your haunting mood. (Unless, that’s what you want. Then we can direct you to the best we can find.)

Or join along and see how far you’re willing to go before you creep yourself out and refuse to leave the safety of your home.

To help you along, my panel of ghouls (ranging from scared of their own shadow to hardcore – nothing scares them) have come up with a rating system to give you a quick understanding what’s in store for you once you hit ‘play.’

The Gore Factor: Ranging from zero (no gore) to 10 (OMG! The streets of Lebanon are covered in a river of blood!) will be represented with our Buckets of Blood.

The Scare Factor:

(1) The Simpsons Aliens [Kang and Kodos]

If these guys scare you, do you live in a padded room or a bubble? Perhaps a small child? No. Then you need to get out more.

(2) The Ghostbusters

Ok, so these movies do have some gore and a few scary moments, but so do most video games nowadays. These are safe for all ages and groups. And hey, everyone loves the Stay Puff Marshmellow Man.

(3) Ashley J. Williams [Evil Dead]

Hey you didn’t really need that arm, did you? Anyway, God probably should have made one of our arms a chainsaw in the first place. These movies have gore and the right amount of ‘scare’ factor. Not good for the little ones, but tweens and up should get some enjoyment out of these films.

(4) Freddy Kruegar

Never. Sleep. Again. Really. Sleep is overrated anyways. These movies get into your head. Might be jumpy for a short while after. Definitely not kiddie-approved. Heck, some adults can’t handle these movies without crying for mommy.

(5) Henry Kane [Poltergeist II]

What was that noise? Where’s Timmy? OMG! We all are about to die! These films stay with you. Might even leave you checking doors/ over your shoulder for a couple of weeks. These are for the hard core horror film freaks or those who want more of a scare than your average horror movie will give you.

So grab your favorite monster, pop some popcorn and get comfy on the couch as 31 Days of Horror helps you get your scare on.
