Tough losses and finger pointing

The Titans played a tough game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, and despite several mistakes, still had the chance to put the game away in the final quarter. We all know in the NFL, there are going to be ugly grind-it-out games that are tough to watch. Add the penalties into the mix, and the Titans can count themselves lucky the margin was only six points.

Speaking of said penalties, Titans Defensive Coordinator Chuck Cecil, frustrated after one penalty flag, decided to take a leaf from Bud Adams’ playbook and flip the bird to a referee. While he may have been upset with the call, there were better ways to show his concern than to throw up a rude gesture that could easily have been caught on camera for the entire TV audience. Having been in the stadium for this particular game, I cannot say what was shown on television.

Perhaps his $40,000 fine will help him make a better decision the next time he disagrees with an official. Hopefully all the extra attention will not hurt the team as they practice in preparation for the upcoming roadtrip to Dallas this weekend. The offense sputtered near the end of Sunday’s outing, and needs to regroup and find ways to sustain drives. Going three and out after your defense has stopped the opponent on the three yard line after a nearly 70 yard march and making them immediately take the field again just doesn’t cut it.

$40,000 for flipping a bird. Yes, that should gt his attention. Or are they so overpaid that he won’t notice. Only time will tell.
