Not everyone is a fan of Oprah Winfrey and that’s OK. That said and accepted, there is one indisputable truth about her years on television: throughout the 25 years of The Oprah Winfrey Show, there were gems of universal truths offered either by her or her guests.

On her final broadcast, Oprah shared a number of things that she knows for sure, and a few of them resonated with me as lessons I had already learned. Today, I want to share a couple of those with you.

Tuesday, May 31, 2011 — As I write this on Sunday, five years have passed since I walked through the doors of The Lebanon Democrat as its Managing Editor. I began my service to the citizens of Wilson County on Memorial Day 2006, May 29.

I use the word “service” deliberately, because to me, The Lebanon Democrat is your newspaper about your community. On a daily basis, our pages are 90 percent filled with the news and events that happen in Lebanon and Wilson County. When space permits or the news warrants, we give space to news outside of our county. But, primarily, we are dedicated to just our county.
